The Born Wild Story

Born Wild grew out of Lehigh Valley Meats, the other family-owned business operated by Bub and Shelley Herfurth. Bub, the son of a butcher, grew up learning the meat industry and built a career working with meat plants and custom processors.

With experience in humane handling, slaughter, fabrication, packaging and business management, Bub and his wife, Shelley, founded Lehigh Valley Meats and then Born Wild to ethically produce quality meat products.

Through our meat processing operation, we have control over the entire process of creating specialized raw pet food blends. We harvest and process all our products in our USDA-inspected meat processing facility. We have built relationships with quality local farms and never outsource our meat supplies. This gives us the ability to know which animals are being used and create the freshest products for your pets. That’s because we believe it’s important to know exactly what went into your pet’s food and where it came from.

We’re also committed to only use healthy animals slaughtered humanely. Our business has been certified as Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World, which guarantees that the animals used have been raised outdoors on pastures or ranges for the duration of their lives. This designation requires high-welfare handling and harvesting practices and isn’t required, but is important to us in how we conduct business.

Our blends for both dogs and cats have been specially developed following 80-10-10 guidelines: 80 percent meat, 10 percent secreting organs and 10 percent bone. That formula creates the perfect mix of nutrients for your pet to enjoy. We sell food and treats made from beef, pork, lamb, veal and chicken. All of our offerings are animal specific and not mixed for pets with allergies or sensitive stomachs.
